Handball League reigning champions Police overcame bitter rivals APR on Sunday at Kimisagara ground to go five points clear on top of the league table.

Police, who are searching for their first win against APR in their last three attempts, edged them 40-38 to hand them their first loss in the 2017 season, extending their unbeaten run to four games.

Alexis Nshimiyimana scored the game’s high 10 goals to guide Antoine Ntabanganyimana’s side to the very crucial three points.

“I am excited to have defeated APR, they recently beat us twice winning two titles and this was the right time to avenge on them, I believe this win boosts my players’ confidence because APR are biggest opponents,” said Ntabanganyimana

Police, now with 12 points from four games, are bidding for their fourth league title in a row while second-placed APR, with seven points, are seeking for the first title since 2009.

Meanwhile, in other games played on Sunday, Ecole Secondaire Kigoma defeated newcomers , from Gatsibo District 36-29 goals, while St. Aloys beat Rambura 29-24 goals.

ADEGI defeated Urumuri 48-43 goals while Inyeramihigo defeated Rambura 54-27 goals.
