RWANDA will compete in next year’s CAHB-Africa Junior women championship in Morocco after trouncing Kenya 35-29 yesterday.
Trailing the visitors in the first half 14-18, Rwanda bounced back in the second half to seal that elusive slot from the first phase of the Zone 5 qualifiers.
“We are very happy to qualify for the African championship. It is a great performance from the girls given that it was their first competitive regional tournament,” said the vice president of the Rwanda Handball Federation Antoine Mbarushimana.
With Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda all level on points (6), it was down to goal difference and Rwanda sneaked through with one while Uganda and Kenya settled for second and third place after returning 0 and -1 respectively.
Tanzania finished fourth after edging Burundi 17-15.
