THE National Sitting Volleyball team has started intensive training at the NPC Gymnasium ahead of the Sitting Volleyball World Cup slated for July 9-18 in Oklahoma, USA.
Rwanda booked her ticket to the event after finishing second to Egypt in last year’s Great Lakes sitting volleyball championship which was held at Amahoro stadium.
The President of the National Paralympics Committee (NPC) Dominique Bizimana, who is also an integral member of the team, said that the 30-man provisional team needs to have early preparations in order to have a decent show at the event that will merge over 40 teams.
“It is a huge competition and we want to impress but to do so, we have to prepare thoroughly,” he said.
“We will be in residential training for the next 15 days after which the final team will be named.”
Meanwhile two power lifters, Theogne Hakizimana and Sylvestre Karemera are in Tripoli-Libya to represent Rwanda at the African Power Lifting championship that started yesterday.
The pair qualified after hitting the minimum qualification standards during the national power lifting championship that took place in Rubavu last month.
