Rayon Sports will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the 2016/17 Azam Rwanda Premier League season when they take on Espoir FC this afternoon at Rusizi stadium.
The Peace Cup champions got off to a bright start last week thumping rivals Police 3-0 in the opening game thanks to goals from Burundian international Shassir Nahimana and Pierot Kwizera, who was voted the best player of last season.
Espoir are known to be a difficult prospect when playing at their own turf but blues coach Djuma Masudi will be counting on prolific Malian striker Moussa Camara who missed last week’s game, among several other stars to bag all three points. Masudi told Times Sports that their target of winning the league requires winning difficult away games.
“This is our season to win the league and we are ready to offer whatever we have to win each of our fixtures to win the league so we have to maintain our winning form,” he said.
Alphonse Gatera’s Espoir were held to a 1-1 draw by Rubavu-based Marines last week and will also be hoping to register their first three points today.
In other games today, newly promoted side Kirehe will face off against Sunrise in the Eastern Province derby at Kirehe stadium. Both sides won their opening games against Musanze and AS Kigali, respectively.
In form Bugesera FC, coached by former Amavubi assistant coach Vincent Mashami, will lock horns with Police at Kicukiro stadium.
Bugesera thrashed SC Kiyovu 3-0 in their opening game. Mukura will host Etincelles at Huye stadum, both teams having won their opening games, with Mukura defeating Pepiniere 2-1 while Etincelles beat Gicumbi 3-2.
