Governor hails religious leaders on development

MUHANGA – The Governor of Southern Province, Fidèle Ndayisaba, has hailed the Catholic Church in the country for their role in social and economic transformation of the province. Ndayisaba said that the Catholic Church is central to community development and its influence on the minds of Christians should be used to promote development activities such as health, education, unity and reconciliation.

MUHANGA – The Governor of Southern Province, Fidèle Ndayisaba, has hailed the Catholic Church in the country for their role in social and economic transformation of the province.

Ndayisaba said that the Catholic Church is central to community development and its influence on the minds of Christians should be used to promote development activities such as health, education, unity and reconciliation.

“I encourage the church to continue with such developmental activities and play a significant role in the transformation of the society by educating residents to make good choices especially in the forthcoming presidential elections,” he said.

He was last week addressing Kabgayi Catholic Diocese religious leaders during a retreat held at St. Andre parish Hall. The retreat was aimed at evaluating the progress of the church.

The Governor also encouraged the Church to renovate its ageing structures in the health and education sector.
Bishop Smargade Mbonyintege, reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to support government development programmes such as education and health and subsequently contribute to the social empowerment programmes.

The retreat was also attended by provincial security leaders, Brig. Gen. Mubarak Muganga, the Regional Police commander, Chief Supt. Faustin Ntirushwa and various district mayors drawn from the province.

Brig. Gen. Muganga, encouraged the religious leaders to educate their followers on peace building, unity and reconciliation.
