Handball league title hopefuls APR overcame Nyakabanda on Sunday in a closely contested match to pile pressure on reigning champions Police, that also won to stay on track for a third successive title.

The Military side, bidding to add on their only league title won in 2009, defeated Nyakabanda 42-31 on Sunday at Kimisgara Youth Sports centre ground to remain two points behind Police with four games remaining. ES Kigoma are third with 29 points while College Inyeramihigo are fourth on 28.

APR’s Viateur Rwamanywa scored the game high 15 points to guide his side to victory.

“It was a hard-fought win because we used mostly the second team players but thankfully we’ve managed to get the three points. The aim is to win our next three games before meeting Police on the final day which could be the title deciding match,” said APR head coach Anaclet Bagirishya.

Meanwhile, the two-time defending champions Police registered a comfortable 57-12 win over Ecole Secondaire Urumuri at Birambo ground in Gicumbi District. Haruna Bizimana netted 11 as the champions maintained their unbeaten run in 14 games.
