Gorilla Logistics Ltd is a regional Freight Forwarding Company that opened shop in Rwanda in 2008. Starting with just 3 employees (a managing director and 2 staffs), the company has demonstrated how commitment and skilful application of knowledge can translate into eloquent performance as reflected in the award the company won recently. The token of recognition is a telling register of its path of growth to delivering services with over 30 employees today.
The company is responsible for undertaking export/import cargo arrangements on the clients’ or shippers behalf at seaports, airports and other transit points. It is also responsible for collection of freight, collection and issuing bill of ladings, notification of arrival and loading of goods, customs, import & export documentation among many other services.
The company also has engaged in transportation of cargo in new partnerships with other companies in this field to provide the most efficient means of transport across borders. It provides advisory services to its clients concerning changes in tax laws and transport costs.
On September 18th, Gorilla Logistics Ltd was rewarded with an International Star Award for quality in the gold category by Business Initiative Directions (BID) in Geneva. The company was recognized for quality, leadership, technology and innovation in the pursuit of excellence.
For the last 30 years BID, led by Jose E. Prieto and a group of qualified professionals from the academic world, business and engineering sectors, has been committed to recognizing, educating and spreading quality culture around the world.
The award was received by Mr. Fred Seka Rwumbuguza, the Managing Director Gorilla Logistics Ltd as a quality leader in the company at the Intercontinental Geneve Convention Hall. By receiving this award, the company makes total quality management a core focus for continuous improvement in order to maintain the leadership in its sector and community.
Peter Gapira, the Operations Manager of Gorilla Logistics Ltd says the company has such core values as integrity, honesty, proper management of its employees, good communication and transparency which he says are the attributes that have enabled them to be recognized for the recently received award.
“After being told this good news, we were somehow surprised by how an international company could research about us and recognized our good works above all companies in 179 countries in which QC 100 model of Total Quality Management is being used,” says Gapira
“We later analyzed ourselves and actually found that we deserved this award for we believe we have done our best in the service industry.” he added
He also said that the award will be an encouragement for them as a company to work even harder so as to become an example of perseverance in the field of quality.
The company intends to improve its internal services in communication with their clients, hold international trainings for their employees so as to expose them to better skills in addition to continued valuing of the clients’ feedback so as to provide efficient services.
Gapira however expressed his concern over capacity issues saying it is hard to get employees who meet the company’s performance standards. He also explained how they are facing external competition from other Freight Forwarders at the ports and lack of trust in local companies from some importers.
