Dr. Donald Kaberuka’s re-election as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), for the next five years, is recognition of the enormous contribution he has made in driving the continent to greater heights.
Kaberuka’s tenure at the helm of Africa’s foremost development agency has been revolutionary. The bank, continued to perform impressively even at a time when the world at large, and Africa in particular suffered from the effects of the global financial crisis.
In the last five years, AfDB ‘s mandate has been redefined to make it more relevant to the challenges facing the continent.
Consequently, the Bank has now repositioned itself into a more relevant financial institution, capable of assisting the continent to drive forth its transformation and development agenda.
Championing a new agenda as reflected in Kaberuka’s management style at AfDB, is actually a true reflection of a leadership motivated to produce results. This turn around, is no doubt one of the main reasons AfDB’s shareholders and stakeholders have entrusted Dr. Kaberuka with another five years as its President.
Africa’s future prospects are bright as projections by various development institutions show. The Millennium Development Goals which are indicators of poverty eradication, are likely to be met in the coming years.
It is now a well recognized fact that the continent is favoured as an investment destination.
