GICUMBI- The officer in-charge of ICT at Gicumbi district, Eric Nikize, is on the run after allegedly stealing six computers and issuing a bouncing cheque of Rwf150 000 to a Kigali businessman.

Nikize, 37 is said to have disappeared on Tuesday.
The District Executive Secretary, Sinese Museveni, and Police confirmed the reports.

Museveni, added that Nikize  has been identified as a suspect of a   theft case in which the  district lost  assorted ICT items.

“A total of five laptops and one desk top, including two modems are currently missing from the ICT room. One of the stolen laptops belongs to Mayor Bonane Nyangezi, which had been taken to the ICT room for repair,” said Museveni.

He said the dishonest employee came to be discovered when a Kigali based businessman, Richard Bigaruka, complained of having been conned of Rwf200, 000 by Nikize.

Museveni further added that , the suspect  ripped off the businessman, claiming he was selling him a  Rwandatel modem at Rwf200, 000 because the modem had a 4 year  pre-paid credit.

“Upon realising that the modem had no service credit as alleged by the suspect, Bigaruka went to the suspect’s office demanding to be refunded his cash. Consequently   Nikize issued him with a bouncing cheque of Rwf150,000 and promised to clear the balance after a short period,” added Museveni.

Gicumbi District Police Commander Superintendent, Jean de Dieu Gashiramanga said the case had been reported to Police.

“Nikize is currently on the list of those  wanted by Police. He disappeared from the district headquarters upon  realising that he was wanted by the police,” said Gashiramanga.
