The Muslim community across the country has vowed to massively participate in the forthcoming presidential elections slated for August.
Speaking at the closure of a three-day seminar organized by the Rwanda Muslim Association (A.M.U.R), to sensitize Muslim leaders on the elections, the Mufti, Sheikh Saleh Habimana, said that they want to ensure that the elections run smoothly.
“The main objective of this seminar is to enable Imams and Sheikhs in Rwanda to make sure that our forthcoming presidential elections take place in a peaceful environment.” He said.
Habimana asked participants to work as volunteers by encouraging fellow Muslims to get their voters’ cards in time, exhibit total discipline during the elections and to choose the best candidate.
The Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, who was the guest of honor, thanked AMUR for organizing the seminar and urged them to always collaborate with government institutions in rebuilding and developing the nation.
“I advise you as members of the Muslim community in Rwanda to work together with the government in having free and fair presidential elections which are based on transparency,” Musoni said.
The seminar attracted over 100 Muslim leaders.
