The 6th edition of Kigali Fashion Week 2016 is finally here. The glamorous red carpet event is set to take place this evening at Century Park Hotel, Nyarutarama, from 6pm.
“This year, you will still see your favourite elements of the fashion show: a world class production, upcoming designers and the amazing all-girl band to perform. Our mission of multicultural arts promotion, ethnic diversity, and positive image remain strong and we are proud to continue with the spirit,” said John Bunyeshuri, the CEO of Kigali Fashion Week (KFW).
“The show will primarily showcase the designers who create couture and finely tailored garments. In addition to being a unique opportunity for talented fashion designers, it’s a platform for creating links and strengthening the relationships between local and international designers. The event will also feature the finest upcoming local makeup artists and runway models,” he added.
According to Bunyeshuri, the concept of this event is to create a posh environment to enjoy a top- off- the- line runway show and have the opportunity to place orders and interact with designers.
“I’m privileged to come back to Kigali and participate in the Kigali Fashion Week as my second time since last year,” said Ugandan fashion designer, Irene Busingye, adding, “It is going to be a fabulous week as we await the grand finale where I will showcase my designs alongside other international and local designers.”
Kigali Fashion Week promotes culture, fashion and entrepreneurship. This year’s edition will feature designers from 12 countries; Ghana, DR Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, South Africa, South Sudan, Belgium, India, Japan, USA and Rwanda.
Some of the designers who will showcase their creations at the event include, Cedric Mizero (Rwanda), Jamil Waljia (Kenya), Moses Turahirwa (Rwanda) , Wibabara Assuma, (Rwanda) Winnie Godi (South Sudan), Irene Busigye (Uganda), An Buermans (Belgium), Sheenah Frida (Kenya), Daniel Ting Chong (South Africa).
