NEWLY promoted Barclays premier league side West Brom is keen to sign Racing Santander striker Mohamed Tchite a.k.a Meme.

Manager Roberto di Matteo, who is also weighing up a move for former Portsmouth defender Steve Finnan, will however face stiff competition from Spain plus Anderlecht and Standard Liège (Belgium) for the 26-year-old.

Tchite said: “West Brom are interested, as are a couple of Spanish clubs. My price won’t be high as I just have two years left on my contract.”

In 2007, the former Mukura player scooped the Belgian Player of the Year Award after scoring 20 goals to help Anderlecht win their 29th league title.

Over the years, the striker, who was born and raised in Burundi to Rwandan and Congolese parents, has been the center of a loyalty ‘war’ since he is eligible to play for DRC, Burundi and Rwanda.

In 2008, he worsened matters when he publicly made his intentions of playing for Belgium clear after getting Belgian citizenship although those dreams were immediately squashed by Fifa.

Meme started his footballing career with Prince Louis in Bujumbura before featuring for Rwanda’s Mukura Victory Sports in 2002.

In 2003, he made his professional debut for Standard Liege. The next season, he signed for Anderlecht before moving to Spanish side Racing Santander in 2007.
