Handball league: APR edge Kibogora to keep pressure on Police

Handball league title hopefuls APR grabbed a hard fought away 33-31 win over league debutants Kibogora Polytechnic on Saturday in Nyamasheke district to keep pressure on table leaders Police.

Handball league title hopefuls APR grabbed a hard fought away 33-31 win over league debutants Kibogora Polytechnic on Saturday in Nyamasheke district to keep pressure on table leaders Police.

 

The defending champions, Police, maintain their unbeaten run with a 47-37 victory against College Inyeramihigo, with Zachee Tuyisenge scoring 11 goals.

 

Anaclet Bagirishya’s side, APR cruised past stubborn Kibogora by a difference of one goal to remain in second place with 15 points, three behind Police albeit with a game in hand.

“It was a very tight game, but we knew Kibogora would give us a hard time because they are very strong and organized. I thank my players for their determination to win the game today,” said Bagirishya.

Kibogora’s Amandin Rugira scored the game high 11 goals. Elsewhere, University of Rwanda College of Education defeated Rambura 24-18, with Innocent Mwiseneza finding the back of the net seven times to guide his side to precious victory.

After match day six, Police lead the table with 18 points, three ahead of APR while Kibogora stayed third with 13 points despite the loss. UR-CE are fourth with 12 points. 

ES Kigoma, College Inyeramihigo and UR-CASS are fifth, sixth and 7th with 11, 8 and 6 points respectively while Nyakabanda, ES Urumuri and Ramburi occupy the last three positions with 5, 4 and 2 points respectively.
