Belts have slowly but surely become a must have accessory. They come in different sorts, styles, colours and sizes. And what’s the best part? They can be worn on tops, trousers, leggings/jeggings, dresses and even skirts.
They are trendy and versitle, they can be worn around the waist, below the bust and even around your hips. For a truly stylish look, choose a belt that not only goes with your outfit, but one that boosts your body shape.
22-year-old Anne Mukakalisa, is an upcoming designer who says belts can be worn by anyone regardless of size, height or shape.
“Any woman, small or plus size, can wear a belt and still look stunning. For the plus size, they should not make their belt tight, since that might make other parts bulge. Try a belt on an oversize top, or a loose dress,” she says.
Mukakalisa says one can never go wrong with a belt that is worn around the waist line. It is a very sophisticated look.
Karol Badal, a Kigali businessman, has been selling belts for women for quite a long time. He says there are many types of belts and they are worn differently depending on one’s preference.
“For those with a big bust, the best way to go about it is to wear the belt just below the bust. Also, if one has a chubby belly and is afraid to wear a belt, they can still wear it around the belly but loose enough. This way, attention will be drawn to the belt and not the belly,” says Badal.
Mary Mutoni, a boutique salesperson in Kimironko, says women with a post-pregnancy belly should opt for a big belt that covers most of the belly.
“Don’t be shy to wear belts because of a chubby belly; choose one that is big enough to cover it, it will enhance your figure,” she says.
Mutoni adds that belts, if chosen well, can make a statement. Try matching the colour of the belt with your earrings, shoes or even a handbag.
