AFTER guiding his club to this year’s Carré d’As volleyball tournament success on Sunday, Rayon Sports coach Fidel Nyirimana has said he was happy “to prove doubters wrong.” Rwanda Revenue Authority ladies won the title after beating APR.
Revenging for the defeat in the league, Rayon Sports beat INATEK 3-2 to secure their first silverware since the club was formed in 2013. INATEK took the first set 25-22 before Rayon secured second set 25-22; INATEK won third set 25-21, but Nyirimana’s team fought back to claim fourth set 25-18 and decisive fifth set 15-13.
Nyirimana said, “Not very many people expected us to win against INATEK because they won the title after beating us last weekend but I am proud of my players for doing a great good job.”
“The players did well to achieve this success, and I am happy with their performance. The determination they have shown in this tournament gives me optimism for next season,” noted that former University of Rwanda College of Arts and Social Sciences V-ball team coach.
The annual tourney brings together the top four teams in the league in both the men and women categories.
The winners Rayon and RRA took home Rwf350.000 each on top of the trophies. Runners-up INATEK and APR got Rwf250 000.
Meanwhile, INATEK (men) and RRA (women) were handed their 2015 league trophies and Rwf500, 000 each while Rayon Sports and APR received Rfw400, 000 for finishing second.
