Police FC coach Andre Casa Mbungo has sent a chilling warning to his rivals that his team is ready to challenge for league title when the 2015/16 season starts on September 18.
Mbungo, 47, sent out the message after winning the 2015 Agaciro Development Fund Cup on Sunday.
Midfielder Hegman Ngomirakiza, who signed from rivals APR FC last month, scored his first goal for Police as the cops defeated Sunrise 1-0 in the final at Amahoro stadium.
It was Mbungo’s second trophy in as many months since joining Police as head coach last season—he guided the club to the Peace Cup title in July, which was the first ever major piece of silverware in the club’s history.
The former AS Kigali coach, whose team finished on third position in the league, has vowed to take the law and order enforcers’ club into the 2015/16 season aiming to challenge for the league title. Police will also represent Rwanda in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The former Sec Academy coach Mbungo is seeking to guide Police to their first league title after signing 14 new players in the current transfer window.
“Winning the Peace Cup and now the Agaciro Cup, gives us more confidence and belief that we can actually challenge for the league title next season. It’s something we’re very serious about but shall also try to defend the Peace Cup,” Mbungo told Times Sport after the final on Sunday.
He added that, “This club has come close (to winning league) in the past but we will go into next season believing that we do something special, believe me we’ll be ready for the challenge. The team has been outstanding in pre-season and I hope we shall continue improving.”
