Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) secretary general Jean Olivier Mulindahabi has said that they sacked the head of Marketing and Communication Jerome J. Dufourg because of indiscipline.

Dufourg was appointed FERWAFA’s head of Marketing and Communications in February this year and was given a six-month probation period but the 28-year-old Frenchman was shown the exit door 10 days before the end of the trial period, despite having signed a two-year contract that would run through February 2017.

Speaking exclusively to Times Sport on Wednesday, Mulindahabi said, “When you are on probation, you can be sacked anytime if you are not performing well, this is the law of doctrine, and that’s what happened to Jerome.”

Mulindahibi said, “On April 1, Dufourg was suspended without pay for six days and he went on to write on his Facebook page that the workers and FERWAFA administration are not professional and uneducated. This was a case of indiscipline on his part, which cannot be tolerated.”

In his post, Dufourg also complained: “People in office complaining that I have blocked P2P websites and limited the use of other bit torrents websites, claiming that they have always downloaded movies and that it has never affected the connection... working with unprofessionals...”

“Since when you actually download and watch movies too? ! Can’t do my job because my connection is always very slow. Meaning it takes ages to download documents and send files.”

According to Mulindahabi, the Frenchman, on April 17, was asked to write an explanation letter after he had invited the head of Italy-based broadcast rights company MP and Silva to come to Rwanda without visa or the knowledge of his bosses (FERWAFA) to discuss how they can help the federation to get sponsors.

Mulindahabi noted, “He wanted to work on his own, he does not communicate, the man came and Rwanda Immigration office sent him back because he did not have visa. He lied to him that he will get a visa at the airport without letting us know.

“When I asked him to share with me what they are going to work on, he wrote back that it is better to scrap his department of Marketing and Communication since it was useless.”

Dufourg was earning US$1000 per month (about Rwf0.75m) and receiving 5% on each sponsorship deal.

Mulindahabi explained, “He only finalized the Azam deal for the Peace Cup, and he will be receiving his 5% after the full amount (Rwf10m), so far we have received only half,” said Mulindahabi.

Dufourg was relieved of his duties on August 3; 10 days before the end of the six-month probation period, but FERWAFA says they are willing to pay his 5% commission for the “single Azam deal he managed to close.”

Efforts by Times Sport to get a comment from Dufourg proved futile as he had already returned to his native France by the time of filing this story but in an earlier story, the FIFA Master Ulmunus, confirmed he had been fired. He said, “I confirm that I have been sacked 10 days before the official end of my probation period.”
