Ndayisenga [Rwa] 79, 78 (157) Twenty-year old Ronald Otile of Uganda made history by claiming the Tusker Malt Uganda Open Golf Championship at first attempt in professional category at the Kitante 72-par golf course in Kampala on Saturday. The youngster, who also won the amateurs category top prize last week, clinched the professional category title with a total of 282 gross to become a the first golfer to claim both Amateurs and professional categories in the same year in the 73-year old competition. Madalitso Muthiya of Zambia, with 283 gross, finished second, while Kenya’s Dismas Indiza finished third with 289. Rwanda’s two representatives in the professional category of this year’s Uganda Open suffered early exit after missing the cut on Thursday. The 34-year old veteran Emmanuel Ruterana missed the cut by two strokes while his compatriot Ernest Ndayisenga missed it by a whopping seven strokes. Over the first two rounds held on Wednesday and Thursday, 150 strokes and below was the required score to make the cut. Former Rwanda number one Ruterana who, finished second in 2010, had a relatively good campaign last year, finishing 14th position. Currently ranked number three on the local scene, Ndayisenga finished 5th at the 2013 tournament which was won by Uganda’s Vincent Byamukama and was hoping to go a step better this year but things didn’t go according to plan. However, Rwanda’s poor showing was not the story making headlines in Kampala.
