Rwanda volleyball head coach, Paul Bitok has asked the national volleyball team to prove Rwanda is still a regional powerhouse in the sport by winning the Zone V Championship that starts today at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.
Although the national side will be deprived of the services of Captain Christophe Gasarasi Mukunzi, who is recovering from an arm injury, Bitok is confident that the rest of the team can cope without the inspirational captain.
“The tournament will be a lot more competitive because every team has improved but we I think we did enough to prepare for tough opponents,” Bitok said.
The competition kicks off this afternoon with Kenya taking on Burundi before Rwanda meets Uganda later in the evening.
Kenya out to revenge
Meanwhile the Kenya Volleyball national team head coach is seeking for revenge after losing to Rwanda in 2011 in the same competition.
Rwanda beat Kenya in All Africa Games qualifiers in 2011 and last year during the World Championship qualifiers.
Kenya coach Geoffrey Omondi said “Rwanda beat us last year during the World Championship qualifiers so we will be seeking revenge. However, we will take it one match at a time,” he said.
