Injyana Ensembles is set to perform classical Jazz pieces at the Christian Life Assembly Church, (CLA) in Nyarutarama on Sunday, May 3.
The concert will feature pieces by the three bands that comprise the group; Injyana Community band, Injyana jazz band and Injyana orchestra Rwanda. Each of the Injyania groups are multi-generational and multi-cultural ensembles.
Lance Gaskill, the conductor of Injyana ensembles, said, “The concert is a celebration of the growth of music in Rwanda and what we see ahead in the future of Rwanda as music.”
The Community band will perform two pieces, Legion of Merit and It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing, in honor of Rwanda’s growth and transformation. The Jazz band and Orchestra will combine for pieces, Take 5 by Dave Brubeck and Munsi y’Umusaraba, a traditional gospel song that will be performed with the CLA choir.
Adam Gaskill, who plays the French horn, says music is something people will be happy to hear because “God created (classical) music for everybody not just some people.”
A raffle will be held in which a painting by the Niyo Arts Gallery will be won to raise funds for Urukundo Home for Children in Gitarama.
On February 19, the ensembles played at Africa New Life Bible Church-Dream Centre University in Kicukiro.
The Sunday show is free to the public and starts at 4p.m.
