After suffering a crushing defeat to Police last week, APR handball club are keen to return to winning ways when they play Gicumbi on April 18 in the handball league.
Former champions APR endured their maiden defeat of the season by narrowly losing 14-17 to rivals Police handball club at Kimisagara youth center courts on match Day 3.
The military side who last won the league title in 2010 are hoping to dethrone holders Police for league title this season and head coach Anaclet Bagirishya believes they have got potential to win the championship.
“We need to recover very fast and focus on our next match, slight defense mistakes cost us against Police but we still have two weeks to prepare ahead for the Gicumbi clash. We can’t handle a second consecutive loss, the clash against Gicumbi is a must-win tie,” Bagirishya said.
Former Police technician Bagirishya also noted that he is aware of what Gicumbi are capable of doing at home and they will travel to North Province with a positive and strong mentality.
In other league matches that took place on Sunday, last year’s first runners-up ES Kigoma of Ruhango district beat University of Rwanda’s College of Education (UR- CoE) while ES Rumuri eased 22-15 over University of Rwanda- College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR- CASS) respectively.
As it stands, Police lead the table log with 9 points while the Black-and-White outfits of APR trail them by two points in second place.
