Rwandans should value the environment through careful use of land resources, Ebenezer Asante, the MTN Rwanda chief executive officer, has urged. Speaking during Saturday’s monthly community work, known as ‘Umuganda’ in Gatunga Cell, Nduba Sector in Gasabo District, Asante advised residents to work together with well-wishers to protect the environment.

“By supporting the global need for valuing the environment through the careful use of resources, we hope to improve our resilience and reduce human impact on the environment,” Asante noted.

MTN staff and franchisee owners, joined the residents of Gahunga cell to dig erosion prevention ditches and rebuilt the existing land terraces.

During the event, MTN franchisee partner, CitiCom also donated Rwf100,000 to restore the dilapidated sports ground at Gatunga.

The area’s secretary, Antoinette Yankurije, welcomed the intervention, saying the community will be able to resume sports activities. MTN officials also urged the residents to help safeguard its infrastructure in the area from vandalism and theft.
