The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, Dan Munyuza, has urged police officers operating in the Eastern Province to be guided by hard work, professionalism and discipline to further realize the mandate of Rwanda National Police.

Munyuza made the call while on a four-day tour in the region which ended on Friday in Bugesera, and visited the District Police Units (DPUs).

The visit was part of the Rwanda National Police countrywide tour to assess the performance, advise DPUs and deliver President Paul Kagame’s New Year message dedicated to security forces.

He read the Head of State’s message to the officers and urged them to double the momentum in accomplishing the set targets of the force.

“The ending year (2014) has been yet another time of distinguished service to the people of Rwanda and our Nation’s interests. Each of you servicemen and women effectively contributed, through your collective work, to delivering the peace and safety Rwandans, residents and foreign guests have continued to enjoy within our national borders. The people of Rwanda are grateful for your selfless service, sacrifices and continued commitment,” the President’s message partly read.

“Beyond our national borders, I want to commend you for your consistent record of professionalism, discipline and resilience in addressing regional and global security challenges in line with our Nation’s principles, interests and priorities.

Many of you are not able to be with your families and friends during this festive season. Yet, thanks to your selfless service, many vulnerable families are able to survive the flames of violence and persecution. It is that commitment which makes Rwanda’s Defence and Police Forces stand out among the most reliable partners for global peace and security”.

“Your performance should depict the mission and vision of the force and to serve the public to the best of their expection,” DIGP Munyuza stated.

He appealed to them to avoid and fight malpractices like corruption, and make community policing an effective tool in the campaign to fight and prevent crimes by engaging the general public and local leaders.
