As Rwanda commemorates the 16th 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, genocide related movies and documentaries will be screened across the country.

Vigils will be the order of the day as Rwandans remember their loved ones, who perished in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

‘The Day God Walked Away’, directed by the Belgian cinematographer Philippe van Leeuw, starring Rwanda’s up-coming actress Ruth Nirere, alias Shanel, will be screened on the night of April 7, at Amahoro Stadium.

The film starts at the outbreak of the genocide. Jacqueline (Shanel), a young Tutsi woman, is a maid in a Belgian family. When she finds her children brutally murdered by the Hutus, she runs away and hides in the bush.

There, she meets a man who has also escaped from the slaughter. Together, they will try to survive with the fear of being discovered at any moment. Terror and madness wait for them at every turn.
