NEWLY appointed Rayon Sports head coach Andy Magloire Mfutila did not get a dream debut result after his side was held to a 2-2 draw by Kiyovu Sport in the National Football League yesterday at the Amahoro National Stadium.

Mfutila who was named head tactician on Monday had to endure a below par performance in the first half that saw his side concede in the 5th minute after Kiyovu’s Miamy Mbakiye put the ball past goalkeeper Jean-Luc Ndayishimiye.

Rayon Sports’ striker Isaac Muganza equalized for the Blues 15 minutes later but Blues’ captain Fuadi Ndayisenga brought down Mbakiye in the box and Suleiman Kakira sent Ndayishimiye the wrong way to give Kiyovu a 2-1 lead.

Faustin Usengimana then equalized from a well taken free kick by Robert Ndatimana after Peter Otema was brought down outside the 18 yard box.

“We had an awful first half but considering our second half performance was good. I am contented with the result. We shall keep working hard to make sure we correct our mistakes,” explained Mfutila.

Kiyovu head coach Ali Bizimungu was happy with the result but admitted that his side wasted several chances that could have granted him maximum points.

Meanwhile, Champions APR will be hoping to capitalize on yesterday’s result by Rayon Sport to open a lead at the top of the National football league table standings.

The army side is currently tied on points with the Blues who are ahead on goal difference but in Mukura, APR faces a determined side with a new coach in Godfrey Okoko who is seeking a perfect start.

Mukura lies in 13th position on the league table with no win, three draws and three losses so far this season, a feat that saw Jean-Baptiste Kayiranga sacked three weeks ago.

Okoko who tormented the army side picking six points when he was in charge of Mukura in the 2007/2008 season will be hoping to replicate the same form today at the Kigali Regional Stadium.
