Gicumbi Handball Club coach Ebenezer Murenzi has broken the silence about his club’s poor show last season, admitting that the club’s financial woes played a big impact in their below par performance.

The three time league champions finished fourth in the league behind AS Kigoma, APR and Police last season after financial constraints in the club saw their players go months without pay, something that hindered morale in the team.

Murenzi says that Gicumbi district, which funds their budget, is working hard to sort out the financial issues before the new season kicks off and that the players are keen to challenge for trophies this season.

“We have already started training for the new season because January is not far and we know what we want next season,” Murenzi said adding that he is looking to secure some friendly games before the new season starts.
