A fire outbreak has gutted a commercial building in Musanze District leaving property worth of hundreds of thousands of francs destroyed. There were no injuries or fatalities reported.
The building served as a carpentry center, welding shop and paint shop.
The incident took place today at around 10am in Cyabagarura Sector of Musanze District.
Superintendent Christopher Semuhungu, the Northern Province Regional Police Spokesperson, told The New Times that investigations to what had caused the blaze were underway.
“We are still investigating the cause of the fire and we are assessing the losses caused by it. What I can say is that no properties were rescued,” said Semuhungu.
According to eyewitnesses the fire started so strongly that little could be done to halt its spread.
Vicky Mapendo, one of people who owned property in the building, recounted how the fire spread so quickly.
“It heard people shouting and calling for rescue but when I arrived soon after I found the whole building up in flames. Nobody could fight it. We could do nothing other than wait to be recused,” said Mapendo.
Efforts to reach the owner of the property for comment were futile.
