MUHANGA — The Governor of the Southern Province, Fidéle Ndayisaba, has praised the Anglican Church for promoting unity, reconciliation and national development over the past years.
The Governor made the remarks while addressing a retreat of Anglican Church leaders in the province on March 12.
“There is evidence that the Anglican Church in Shogwe Diocese has moved from an era of promoting divisions and bad politics towards a new chapter of creating unity, reconciliation and socio-economic transformation,” he said.
The Governor also reminded church leaders of their responsibilities and contribution to the government’s programmes geared towards bringing about transformation.
He said: “It is the responsibility of all church leaders to help sustain the current level of economic growth and good governance so that Rwandans can develop and live in harmony.”
The Bishop of Shogwe Diocese, Gered Kalimba, said the Church was committed to supporting government initiatives.
Kalimba called on other leaders to promote unity and reconciliation while empowering residents towards sustainable development.
Some of the recent initiatives of Shogwe Diocese include empowering women, construction of health centers, schools and initiating community development projects.
