GATSIBO – The Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Charles Munyaneza, has appealed to local leaders in Gatsibo district to sensitise residents about participating in the forth coming presidential elections.

“Registering is a must while electing is optional, however, a good citizen takes part in the elections fully,” Munyaneza said. “Tell the electorate what the country expects of them as responsible citizens-to elect a leader of their country.”

Residents expressed fears that a good number of them who had not acquired Identity Cards would fail to participate in the elections.

However, Nicholas Rwaka, the vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs said the district would ensure that all eligible voters get their IDs to facilitate the voter registration exercise.

Christopher Bagira, the NEC representative in the district called on local leaders to work with them for proper preparations of the presidential elections.

“Presidential elections is a very important exercise, no one should take it for granted,” he said.
