KENYA Commercial Bank (KCB) has inaugurated a new regional golf tour for professionals which will feature golfers from the South Africa Sunshine tour.
The KCB East African Golf Tour which was launched this Tuesday is an eight-tournament series with a total purse of KShs12.5 million (Rwf. 93.3 million).
According to KCB Rwanda’s Marketing and PRO officer Aretha Rwagasore, the KCB Rwanda Open golf tournament has also been drafted into the regional golf tour calendar.
“It will allow Rwandan professional golfers to take part in the regional tour as they tussle with the region’s top golfers as well as those from South Africa,” Rwagasore told Times Sport.
The new tour incorporates events in Arusha, Kampala and Kigali. Professional golfers who will take part in Arusha, Kampala and Kigali editions are set to share a KShs 1 million (Rwf7.4 millions).
Kenya will have four events as follows: Thika-KShs450, 000 (Rwf. 3.3 million), Muthaiga- KShs550, 000 (Rwf. 4.1 million), Nakuru- KShs450, 000 (Rwf. 3.3million) and Nyanza-KShs450, 000 (Rwf. 3.3 million).
KCB will be the title sponsor of Kenya’s first Sunshine Tour event, the KCB Classic that will take place in Mombasa in August to mark the end of the series.
The grand finale of the tour that will take place in August in Mombasa and will be a co-sanctioned event incorporating the South African Sunshine Tour and the KCB East African Golf Tour.
The incorporation of the Sunshine Tour and the expansion of the previous KCB Pro-Am tour into a regional series are intended to promote the KCB Brand across East Africa and in the greater Eastern and Southern African region in line with growing business profile of the bank.
