NYABIHU - Another businessman Bernard Munyanshongore, commonly known as
Bigega, was murdered in the cold blood at Nkamira centre, the second similar murder in weeks.
Bigega was shot in the head and chest at his gate where he owns a boutique, according to local authorities.
“Investigations are still going on but we have suspects in custody,” Jean Damascene Ndagijimana, Nyabihu Mayor said.
Police is currently holding two suspects among them a RDF soldier. The suspects currently detained at Mukamira Police Station were identified as senior sergeant Faustin Uwimana and Theophile Dukunzimuremyi.
The death follows the murder of another businessman who was shot dead by unknown assailants during the festive season.
“This place is becoming dangerous because we have army deserters and ex-combatants who were not officially demobilised,” Ndagijimana said, adding that illegal weapons could still be in the hands of residents.
In the latest incident, sources suspected different motives for the murder. The Mayor said the deceased could have been killed for testifying before gacaca court against Dukuzumuremyi‘s mother in law Prisca Mukankusi who was sentenced to 15 years.
Police sources on the other hand said sergeant Uwimana of 6th Battalion is considered as a prime suspect because he accused the deceased of having an affair with his wife.
“Sergeant Uwimana is the prime suspect because he went around alleging that the deceased was going out with his wife and threatened violence,” a source at the police said.
Upon being contacted, police publicist Supt. Eric Kayiranga said they were still gathering more information.
