Only two accidents were registered on December 31 across the country. The two reported incidents were all recorded in Kigali city on Thursday night.
Police spokesperson, Eric Kayiranga confirmed the incidents. It is the first time in the last three years when no serious accidents have been registered.
Kayiranga attributed this to the existing cooperation between police, drivers and pedestrians to respect the road instructions.
“This shows that people were well sensitized and were vigilant in their movements,” Kayiranga said.
Without mentioning the number of accidents in the whole month of December, he said that they were minimal compared to the same month in the previous years.
By press time, all accidents that were registered in whole country were yet to be released.
However, by September about 1704 accidents had so far been registered representing a 3.6 percent increase in the last previous three months, according to the report that was released by police.
In the same month of September alone, 26 people died in the 246 accidents registered across the country.
In 2008, over 300 people died in 2,511 accidents recorded countrywide.
