HUYE- All the 15 people involved in a Wednesday motor accident on the Huye-Kigali highway have been treated and discharged, officials at the University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB) have confirmed.
Dr Edward Ngendahayo who received the causalities in the hospital’s emergency ward said that all the 15 victims were treated for minor bruises and discharged.
“There was no single case of bone fracture, many of them escaped with minor bruises which we promptly treated, there have not been any complications reported so far as a result of the accident,” said Dr Ngendahayo.
On Wednesday at around midday, a commuter taxi plate number RAA 178 A carrying Youths who were from attending closing ceremonies of Youth Itorero in Kigali was involved in a head-on collision with a Coaster bus plate number RAB 546W belonging to Volcano Express transport agency, which was heading to Kigali.
The accident took place at Karama in Ruhashya Sector, about 13kilometers from Huye town.
According to Police sources, the driver of the commuter taxi, Emmanuel Rwahama, tried to overtake in a sharp corner, ramming into the oncoming Volcano Express and overturning in the process.
Ten passengers from the commuter taxi and five from the Volcano Express bus sustained minor injuries and were rushed to CHUB by the Police.
Meanwhile Police at Ngoma Police station have confirmed the arrest of Rwahama, the driver of the ill-fated commuter taxi; he is expected to be arraigned in court soon.
