Road users have been advised to be more cautious as the festive season draws near in order to reduce on the number of accidents that characterise this period. The caution was sounded yesterday by the Traffic Police chief, Supt. Egide Ruzigamanzi, during the end of year live talk show that was organised by the National Police at Telecom house.
According to Ruzigamanzi, accidents that occur towards the end of the year are caused by excessive drinking and reckless driving, as motorists celebrate the end of the year.
“People should not drink and then drive when they know how dangerous it is to their lives and to the lives of other road users,” said Ruzigamanzi.
The traffic boss said that though there was a decrease in the number of accidents, it does not mean that people should relax.
“This year we had up to 2,300 accidents down from 2,511 accidents last year, people who died in this year due to accidents were 314 down from 400 last”.
