The Kigali City Council (KCC) committee in charge of auditing is currently undergoing an exercise of auditing Nyarugenge district officials to assess how they have been using public funds.
The committee started its work immediately after the resignation of district mayor Origene Rutayisire.
The committee is expected to come up with a report to be presented to the City Council upon completion of their work.
“The auditing has started and it will be ready by end of the month but at the moment we cannot disclose what we have so for come up with because the auditing is still on-going,” Jean Marie Maniraguha, the head of the auditing team said.
When contacted, Berchmas Kamali, the acting mayor said that the audit will mainly focus on activities of the tender committee specifically on how different tenders were awarded to different contractors.
He added that the exercise will also tackle the construction department.
Meanwhile, Kamali said that they are currently working round the clock to clear different pending cases that have over time piled up in different offices.
