Woman attempts suicide
A woman in Ngoma district was saved by her neighbours after she attempted to commit suicide over a debt.
Mukamurangwa, a mother of five said that she wanted to commit suicide because of Rwf30, 000 given to her by a Non Governmental Organisation where she worked as a cook.
She had been given the money to buy food for the organisation’s employees but she diverted it to serve personal purposes.
However, according to the neighbours, Mukamurangwa had many other family problems that she could not afford to cater for.
Nyagatare under assessment
Different district officials in Nyagatare on Tuesday carried out an inspection in some sectors aimed at assessing the development that has since registered.
Among the sectors inspected were Rukoma, Matimba and Rwempasha which according to the district executive secretary Yusuf Mugiraneza, showcased improvement in people’s perception towards the land consolidation policy.
During the exercise, residents were also called upon to support the construction of classrooms needed for the 9-year basic education programme.
Students attribute failure to teachers
While some candidates were all smiles after sitting for national examinations, students of Gishoma Secondary School on Tuesday expressed discontent after their theory exam papers saying they would fail because of the unprofessionalism of teachers employed by the school.
According to some students, the teachers were not always well conversant with the subjects they taught and they missed their lessons on regular basis.
RWN meets Bugesera women
Rwanda Women Network (RWN) officials on Tuesday met women in Bugesera district to discuss the women’s rights.
According to the Dolphin Mukashema, who represented RWN at meeting said that this was aimed at promoting women’s rights as way of reducing domestic violence to which some subscribe because of ignorance.
She added that some women in villages do not know the laws protecting them.
