KARONGI - A former accountant of a savings and credit society (SACCO) Credit Cooperative Society (CAPEC) in Rubengera Sector, in Karongi District, has been arrested and detained at Bwishyura Police Station in connection with missing funds belonging to the organisation.

Sources said Glorioza Ingabire, 23, was arrested after an audit report indicated that Rwf2.8m belonging to the cooperative was missing.

It is alleged that Ingabire often times withdrew money and approved loans to ghost clients in an attempt to defraud the cooperative.

Police confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect deliberately made irregularities in recording incomes and expenditures within the books of accounts for the cooperative society.

“Audits were carried out revealed that she swindled the money within a period of over six months. She is in custody as investigations go on,” police said.

The cooperative has over 100,000 members countrywide with its headquarters in Huye District.
