RWAMAGANA - Residents of Kigabiro sector in Rwamagana at the weekend participated in a cleaning exercise aimed at ridding the town of polythene bags.
“This kind of work is very important. That people can voluntarily clean the town is a good gesture because polythene bags destroy the environment,” Emmanuel Nyirimana, an official in charge of social affairs at the sector said.
He cautioned residents against the use of polythene bags to avoid environmental degradation.
In a related development, a cooperative society known as COPESPE has revealed that it has started producing alternative paper bags to cut down on the use of polythene bags.
