AFTER a promising start to their Francophone Games campaign, the Junior Wasps suffered a 3-1 defeat against defending champions Cameroon on Monday.
The West Africans went top of the group (A) after the victory where SC Kiyovu’s Titi Tumaine netted Rwanda’s consolation at Rafic Hariri Stadium.
The result was a step back for the Junior Wasps who had defeated Canada 3-2 in Saturday’s opener after a brace from Rayon Sport’s Jamal Mwiseneza.
Monday’s defeat left Rwanda’s qualification chances on the ropes. The loss means that their best chance of qualifying is as the best-second placed team.
Three winners and one best second-placed team advance to the semi-finals.
Away from football, Rwanda is also competing in table tennis, athletics and cultural dance. Some 3,000 athletes from 42 countries are taking part in the competition.
