GATSIBO/RULINDO - The State Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Mathius Harebamungu, last week inaugurated two primary schools whose construction was funded by the Chinese Embassy.
The schools in the districts of Gatsibo and Rulindo worth Rwf 400m each were constructed in line with the cordial relationship between Rwanda and the People’s Republic of China.
Handing over the schools, in Gatsibo District, the Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Sun Shuzhong, noted that education is key to the attainment of the country’s vision.
“As a country with one of the highest population densities in Africa, Rwanda considers its people as the fundamental resource for its future development.
To build a sophisticated knowledge-based economy as one of the major objectives of the vision 2020, education seems to be the key for Rwanda,” the envoy said.
Shuzhong added that Rwanda-China ties have significantly improved, which has enhanced education exchange programmes.
“I believe that today’s hand-over ceremony is a good sign of our ever- closer educational cooperation,” he said, adding that the school construction was part of his government’s commitment.
Harebamungu, thanked the Chinese government for their continued support to the country’s development especially in the education sector.
“The Government of Rwanda is bent on building a knowledge- based economy by ensuring equitable access to quality education,” he said.
He pointed out that the new schools will increase school enrollment.
