CAPE TOWN - The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has revealed the winners of this year’s African Nations Championship will collect US$750,000.

Caf made the prize money known ahead of this weekend’s quarter-finals of the tournament for home-based players.

The money would be a major boost for any of the last-eight teams in South Africa, with even African champions Nigeria struggling financially.

A total of $3.2m will be shared among the 16 participants.

Nigeria’s cash problems have been well documented, with players repeatedly threatening to strike over cuts in their bonus payments.

And Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi went seven months without being paid last year.

Nigeria face Morocco in Cape Town in Saturday’s first quarter-final, with Mali and Zimbabwe facing off in the later kick off.

On Sunday, Gabon take on Libya in Polokwane before Ghana meet DR Congo in Mangaung.
