RWANDA’S professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana was short of kind words for Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) after being kept in the dark about a change of schedule of the Shell Open.
Ruterana and his Rwandan counterpart Jean Baptist Hakizimana travelled to Uganda only to be told on the morning of the competition that the event had been called off due to the political tension in Uganda.
But Ruterana, who is still looking for a sponsor after parting ways with long-time sponsors Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) early this year, claims that it was UPGA’s duty to inform them of the changes.
“We found it a bit inconsiderate of UPGA. Even after learning of the changes, they failed to communicate,” the 26-year-old said.
Ruterana and the MTN-sponsored Hakizimana were part of 10 professionals eager to fight for a share of the Rwf5m cash prize.
Ruterana joined the paid-ranks back in 2006 while Hakizimana only joined last year.
