With him for his money? Who is he, Bill Gates?

Just when you hoped men had finally got it in their heads that not all women are after money, in comes the one with a fresh and very insulting take on the matter.

Just when you hoped men had finally got it in their heads that not all women are after money, in comes the one with a fresh and very insulting take on the matter.

So according to an old friend, his ex girlfriend broke up with him because he wasn’t serious anymore - and in this case, ‘unserious’ means ‘out of work’. Apparently, the relationship ended about seven months after losing his job.

Considering I know the girl in question, his story seemed more like a man seeking pity – and consoling heartbroken lovers isn’t exactly my cup of tea.

Sure, it’s never nice when someone loses their job, but seriously, sitting around whining about it and insisting that the only reason the girl was with him was because he had a job as if he made millions was quite annoying!  For one, this girl actually had a job. She paid her rent and bought her food. If he wanted to take her out, then sure, who was she to say no to free dinner and drinks? But she pretty much tried to be as independent as she could. For Christ’s sake she did her own nails and barely went to the salon – something most men wouldn’t mind seeing as they say women love asking for salon funds!

Now this dude, high on I don’t know what, comes claiming the chick was just after ‘his money’. What a load of tripe! I did the only thing I could do and defended her.

Hypothetically, if she did in fact leave him for that reason, she was actually smart. Let’s not be blinded by silly ‘heartbeat skips’ and look at the picture the way it really is. What was he doing just chilling seven months; not once bothered to look for another job? Instead of sitting there and feeling sorry for himself he could have actually found something to do. But being the picky and proud guy that he is, some jobs were simply beneath him. You can’t blame a sister for calling him unserious! Also, a word of advice to my brothers out there, if you earn more or less what your girlfriend does, you really have no business thinking she is with you for your money. What money? You mean the overdrafts constantly asked for?

By the time I was through with that lad, he was forcefully seeing things my way. She was no gold-digger. She was simply a girl who took financial stability very seriously. It works best when both of you earn a salary so that no one has to live off the other. That doesn’t make her b@*%# of the year, does it? It makes her smart and focused and the last time I checked, that has never been a crime!
