NYAGATARE – CHAMP Rwanda, through the Presbyterian Church of Rwanda (EPR), on Thursday donated sewing machines worth Rwf3.5 million to child-headed families in the Nyagatare District.
The donation which included other work kits were given to families living in the sectors of Gatunda, Rukomo and Karama.
Verediyana Makanoheri, who represented the beneficiaries, said the recipients have already received a six month training in tailoring.
“They (CHAMP) first trained us on how to use and operate these machines. We now have enough skills to help us in our day to day survival,” Makanoheri said, adding that earnings from tailoring business will be injected in other small income generating projects they had set up.
The CHAMP coordinator in Nyagatare, Cesar Kubwimana urged the beneficiaries to put the machines to good use.
“It is vital to put into good use the facilities you have received and use them to push you into other development activities,” he said.
Different local leaders at the function commended the CHAMP for their continued support geared at eradicating poverty in communities.
