THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set dates for the 2011 African Under-17 Championships, which will be held in Kigali.
Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa yesterday told Times Sport that the continental body has confirmed the dates as June 4-18.
“Caf wanted us to host the tournament in March but the timing was not favorable for us.
We preferred to have it either January or June, and now CAF has confirmed that the event should be in the first week of June 2011,” Kalisa said.
Kalisa also noted that the 2011 youth championship will be held on three venues of Amahoro stadium, Nyamirambo and in Gisenyi, Northern Province.
The Caf congress, which met in Lagos, Nigeria early this year approved Rwanda as the host of the U-17 championship.
Caf Executive Committee under the chairmanship of Issa Hayatou already had taken decision to award Rwanda the hosting rights following a successful conclusion of U-20 Youth Championship in January.
Ghana won the U-20 championship after beating giants Cameroon 2-0 in the final.
Rwanda, who were in group A along with Ghana, Cameroon and Mali, did not progress past the group stages.
