THE ADVENTURES OF WAMBUTU

They were happy because their friendship with Waikobe’s village had been restored by the birth of Wambutu. And the younger men were amazed as Mzee Ndugu one of the elders in Kamikaze’s village concluded his story of how Kamikaze had brought peace to their village.

So the village elders and a few of their warriors were asked to go and prepare to escort Kamikaze and Gawoza back to their village. It was a long way and they would not let her go back by herself.

Kamikaze, the new born baby and Gawoza were already asleep by this time as they knew they had a long way to go the following day. Back in Gajagaja, Waikobe raised to the platform as everyone else fell silent including the welcome drums.

After clearing his voice, he greeted his people and said, for a fortnight then, his oldest wife Kamikaze had not appeared anywhere in the palace as well as in this village of Gajagaja.

He then kept quite before asking all the men of Gajagaja whether any of them had seen her in Gajagaja village, to which they all answered, “Not once Sir”

Waikobe then explained how bad it would be if any of the men had decided to take his wife and daughter away whether it was in Gajagaja or any neighbouring village. He then asked all men if any of them had taken them to pronounce it then and be forgiven or found and be killed.

He also asked the wives of the men whether their husbands could be hiding her wife in their houses because if caught he would destroy the entire house hold, to which all women answered, “Not where we Know sir!”

Immediately Wambutu seemed to get angrier and declared that the offender would be punished severely if found out! Then he went ahead to give instructions.

“Let all my men of war divide into for groups. One will head north, the other west, the other south and the other east.”

He ordered them to search every place and every house in the village and return to him with any information at the setting of the sun.

To this, all the chiefs’ men of war agreed to do and promised that they would not hide anything from the chief. They promised that even if it was one of them or their relative, they still would tell the chief.

Will the chiefs’ men of war find Kamikaze? To be continued next week.
