Tips to prevent A,H1N1

News of the A, H1N1 influenza commonly known as swine flu is everywhere.

There is no cause for alarm or need to break into a panic attack but everyone from offices to the confines of our homes needs to be aware of its implications. There are simple things that we all can do to prevent its spread.

1. Avoid close contact.

Our culture predicts that we shake hands, hug and peck as we greet. This is great but it time to give it a break unless you are 100 percent sure that the other person is not sick. Its better, to avoid close contact especially with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

2. Wash your hands properly:
Wet your hands with warm water and apply soap, rub your hands together for 20 seconds. Make sure to thoroughly wash between your fingers and underneath your nails. Rinse hands with water and dry hands using disposable paper towels that can be found in any supermarket.

Wash your hands after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose, using the bathroom or taking out the garbage.

3. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Then throw the tissue away and burn them. If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your hands and wash your hands right away.

4.  Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth. This is how germs are spread and how you can get sick.

5. Consider a face mask. If you live in an area where swine flu has been identified and you cannot avoid crowded settings or close contact with others, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, you need to use of a face mask.

6. Maintain healthy habits. Sleep seven to eight hours each night, exercise regularly, try to manage stress, drink plenty of water and eat nutritious foods.
