Defending champions Rwanda U20 handball team tussle it out with counterparts Sudan today at Lugogo stadium, eyeing a second victory in the regional IHF Challenge Trophy in Uganda.

Rwanda won the opening game on Monday afternoon, 30-29 over Uganda to start quest for title defense on a positive note at the expense of the hosts.

“After winning the first game, the boys got even more confident and motivated to retain the title. We have to focus on one game at a time and ensure we cruise through unbeaten. We are ready to take on Sudan on Wednesday (today) and fight to win.” Rwanda U20 team’s head coach Anaclet Bagirishya told Times Sport from Kampala on Tuesday.

After the tie against Sudan, the Rwandan youngsters will turn focus to Thursday’s encounter against neighbors of Burundi before wrapping up group stages against Somalia on Friday.

Semi-finals of the biennial regional competition will be played on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s final and third place play-off.

Champions of the week-long tourney will automatically qualify for the 2019 Africa Under-20 Handball Championship.

Rwanda represented the region at last year’s edition in Senegal but failed to impress on continental scene with an early exit from group stages.
