KARONGI - A first year student at Kigali Health Institute (KHI) Nyamishaba branch located in Karongi District has been arrested after he was caught red-handed having sex with a 16-year old girl.

Sources said Jean Paul Ntaganzwa, 32, was caught with a pupil of Sainte Marie Primary School on Saturday evening in his house located near the school.

Ntaganzwa, who was the leader of the association of student survivors (AERG) is said to have attempted in vain to allow those who apprehended him to ‘first finish off his business’ before being escorted to Bwishyura Police Station.

“Funny enough, he requested to be given some time to clear his act ,” the source who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

Rukundo Kanyankore, the coordinator of KHI Nyamishaba branch confirmed the development in a telephone interview, condemning it as unfortunate incident which has now tainted the good image of the institution.

“I am aware that Ntaganzwa is under police custody and this is a very bad incident. It was very wrong to have sex with an underage girl and I hope the law will take its course,” Rukundo said.

Rukundo added that he would address the students about the dangers of premarital sex especially those involving the underage.

Upon conviction the offenders are liable for a maximum sentence of 25 years jail term.
