Are gorillas more important than people?

Editor, The raging forest fires in the Virunga’s have been one of the major news stories so far this week. And this is only fair; after all, a lot of our foreign exchange is courtesy of one of God’s blessing to this country- the Mountain Gorilla. However, I think that the headline to the story was in bad taste.

Editor,

The raging forest fires in the Virunga’s have been one of the major news stories so far this week. And this is only fair; after all, a lot of our foreign exchange is courtesy of one of God’s blessing to this country- the Mountain Gorilla.
However, I think that the headline to the story was in bad taste.

The headline was thus “Wildfires spread to Uganda…Gorillas, residents safe”.

I think this headline was a mistake. Was the New Times attempting to insinuate that the Gorillas were more important than people?

I think that the tragedy of residents potentially losing their lives and homes because of wildfires is a bigger deal than the gorillas. However, if I was reading too much into merely a headline, I stand corrected.
